Ridiculous busfares
published: Wednesday | September 24, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE WERE anticipating the increase of bus fares by the government. However, we are disspapointed because every parish seems to be doing their own thing when it comes to bus fares. Some parishes have doubled their fares (50%) while others have increased theirs by 40% etc. Fare increses from $140 to $190 from Mandeville to Kingston and vice versa, which is too much of an increase.

The Honourable Minister of Transport needs to sit down and review these increases in the rural areas of our country. What about the single parents with three or more children going to school, no pay increase. These and other factors contribute to the escalation of crime and violence in our country.

I am, etc.,
