National meltdown
published: Wednesday | September 24, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

FOR ONCE I would like to see Dawn Ritch write an article that speaks to the national meltdown of our country, without interjecting partisan rhetoric negatively directed toward the PNP and the Patterson administration.

Most of her arguments are valid and I fully support her conclusion on the causes and effect of many problems in our country. However, she undermines and then defeats her own efforts by constantly belittling our system of governance, appearing to be echoing the sentiment of the Opposition party (JLP) without offering constructive suggestions for change.

Our country has been plagued with tribalism for decades due to the powers of persuasion by those in the media and those who hold powerful positions. Influential persons like Dawn Ritch do the citizenry no good when they use their influence and persuasive ability to raise fear and resentment for the sake of personal or partisan benefits. Her repertoire of knowledge should be used in a more positive manner.

Ms. Ritch is destroying the very fabric of the society she is trying to educate by polluting the mind of those that read her columns. Has Ms. Ritch worked to become part of the solution? Has she ever held any elected political office or position? Has Ms Ritch published her own party affiliation?

I am a concerned citizen living in the USA and a member of the People's National Party.

I am, etc.,
