Covering nakedness
published: Wednesday | September 24, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE EMANCIPATION Park work of art, "Redemption Song", has rightly stimulated much discussion because of the statues' nudity.

We may recall that our foreparents dealt with the realisation of their nakedness by sewing fig leaves together to make loin coverings (Genesis, Chap.3,verse7).

With this in mind, could water-loving vines or creepers be trained to grow to cover parts of the statues? For the art purist the work would still retain its nudity, and for the sensitve, pure in heart or the puritanical, the modesty the foliage cover provides would restore the park as an oasis of relaxation.

I am, etc.,
