Argentine couple says goodbye
published: Wednesday | September 24, 2003

By Chester Francis-Jackson, Gleaner Writer

DOVES, AND so, after an extended tour of duty, First Secretary of the Argentinean Embassy here, Daniel Pepa, and his gorgeous German blonde wife, the lovely Heidi Pepa, leave Kingston.

On arrival in Jamaica, the couple made fast friends and became a society staple. Their charm as a couple and their hot dancing skills that would see them doing the meringue, tango or the salsa whilst mere mortals looked on in awe, simply made them hot-to-trot!

Sadly, however, it is nigh time for them to go and late next month the secretary's tour of duty comes to and end. They return to Buenos Aires, where they will be based pending international assignment!

With the news of their impending departure, however, there has been a sense of sadness surrounding the couple's friends and colleagues. The couple personified a fab new breed of diplomats that represented the very best of their home nation as well as their host country in the execution of their duties. The two further strengthened the bonds that binds at the official level. They exuded the culture of their homeland in that effortless manner that makes for a wholesome understanding of their homeland.

And so, as the date of their departure looms, so does the partying. Indeed, snob-society, though saddened to see the couple go, are equally determined that since they must, then they should go in fine style! So there are parties a-plenty, as Kingston and St Andrew's haute society rolls out the red carpet to party, as they say a fond adieu to the very charming couple!

Gluckwunch mi amigos!

TEXAN WEDDING

Speaking of haute society, Pumpkins, it was the only talk all of last week and leading into this week as well. The talk is all about this Saturday's wedding in Dallas, Texas, of Sebastian Cartade and the sensationally gorgeous blonde Texan beauty, Robin Dene Garr, come this Saturday afternoon! Cartade is the son of Robert Cartade and his glamour maven of an heiress of a wife and former high-fashion model and designer Carole Issa-Cartade.

Sweet-things, the buzz is it will be a three-day swirl kicking off tomorrow evening with sensational welcoming party for the international guests that will be in attendance at the Texas home of the groom to be. This will be followed by yet another of a smasheroni of an affaire in shape of a Bachelor's Party on Friday before Saturday's crowning affair at Christ The King Catholic Church, in Dallas, to be followed by the gala reception at the Crescent Court Hotel's Gallery Ballroom!

Luvs, more anon, as already this out-of-towner has all of fab-society trekking to the State of Texas this weekend for the Do. So do wait for this one, as it promises to be the hallmark of all that is fabulous in the State of Texas and the Island called Jamaica!

MORE CHAMPAIGNE WISHES

And still speaking of weddings and high society: It's a November 8th date for the dreadlocked Johnny Hamilton and his fiancee, the lovely Amanda Saulter. The two will exchange marital vows at his Caymanas Estate residence, in a ceremony that will be restricted to family and very close friends of the bride, groom and their families!

This, too, promises to be another St Andrew smasheroni. The groom, a one-time high priest of partying and celebrated soirees is well-known for his very innovative and oh sooo chic Bamboo furnishings and accessories. He is reportedly ga-ga and gu-gu in love with the radiant beauty he has called his companion for the last several years now and is all ready for the domesticated life of marriage and family!

Congratulations all around and champagne wishes y'all!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Then on Monday, dearhearts, the charming R. Christene King celebrated her birthday by spending a quiet day at home. Not so, however, the previous day, as Sunday saw her celebrating in true and fine - strike that to read premium style- at her St Andrew town home that had her very close friends, family members and a few colleagues in attendance!

Turtledoves, it was as fabulous is, and then some with the fare absolutely something to-die-for! And we mean deliciously so and then some here, with guests simply raving! And then there were the asides! Children, precious above and beyond a fault as guests went to town!

PETER FRASER RETURNS?

And speaking of fabulous hotels! There is quite a buzz in the north coast town of Ocho Rios. Word from the picturesque sea coast resort hot spot is that noted Jamaican hotelier, Peter Fraser, whose international credits includes Dubai and now Barbados, is being tipped to return to that town soon from his Barbados post. He is to take up the top position at one of that town's more fabulous resorts!

Now don't know if the 'Is' have been dotted and or if the 'Ts' crossed, thus inking the deal on this one. But, the buzz is that there are some very strong indications that the renowned hotelier is getting all set to join one of this here island premier resort chains, and soon too!

And it seems that retail/wholesale tycoon Las Chin is all set to take his Lasco products to London, England, as the innovative mogul further expands his ever-growing empire to supply the needs of the near five million or so West Indians, in the London area. Wait for this one, as this follows closely on the expansion that saw him entering the South American market where, like in Jamaica, the Lasco brand is a household word, associated with value for money and quality products.
