SBAJ conducts training seminars

The theme for this month's seminar scheduled for Saturday, March 31, 2001 at the SBAJ Headquarters on Trafalgar Road, is 'Employment Techniques and Labour Law." Presenters are drawn from various government ministries including the Ministry of Labour, Tax Administration Department and private educational institutions. The modules include "Labour Law-Empowerment and Employees' Rights" presented by Miss Jean Smith, director, Industry Relations, Ministry of Labour; "Statutory Deductions & Employees Benefits" by Mr. Alvan Rainford, technical specialist, Taxpayers Audit & Assessment Dept., Tax Administration; and "Conducting Job Interviews" by Miss Norma Rochester, managing director of Education Development and Management Services. Labour Laws Empowerment and Employers' Rights will be presented by Mrs. Jacqueline Lloyd, executive director of the Jamaica Employers' Federation; "Effective Communication" by Mrs. Elaine Chaplin, managing director, Pyramid Training & Placement Services; and "Employer/Employee Work Attitude by Miss Hope Lawrence, Career Counsellor. According to the SBAJ, the organisation was carrying out its mandate for training and development against the background of redundancies and job losses which have forced a number of persons into starting their own businesses. The training series aims to assist them in becoming competitive and acquiring the basic knowledge and management skills necessary for maintaining a viable business.
