Courtney's mind now at ease

Allan Donald

PORT-OF-SPAIN, (Reuters):

West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh said yesterday that reaching the 500-wicket milestone had taken a weight off his mind.

"I don't think 600 is on the cards. I'm happy to get this out of the way. It's been a big drain just thinking about it from the beginning of the series," he said.

"I felt a bit nervous because I started thinking about it before the match. I just tried to focus on the game and the job we have to do. It came quickly and I'm thankful for that.

"I'm just hoping to get through the series here, that's the most important thing," he said.

South Africa fast bowler Allan Donald, speaking on behalf of the visitors, said: "I have always been a great admirer of yours for the way you have stayed humble, and the way you approach the game.

"It's a fantastic effort and I don't think I'll ever get there as long as I live."
