CABLE & WIRELESS Jamaica (C&W) yesterday began offering a new flat rate Internet package for US$50 per person.
C&W's flat rate Internet service customers will allow customers the chance to browse the net for a fixed fee each month, without regard for the number of hours spent on-line.
The flat rate package comes with free 24 hour technical support.
Existing C&W customers wanting to use the new service will have to close the current net account and effectively open a new one.
Along with the flat rate service, August 6 also marked the introduction of a reduced monthly rate for C&W's Voyageur 35 Internet package. The new monthly rate will be US$45, down from US$50. This package entitles users to 35 hours net access monthly, a free 1MB Web page and allows eight e-mail users per account.
Vice-president for marketing and sales integrated communication services Geoff Houston said: "Cable & Wireless will continue to develop and offer new Internet-based services to meet growing demand. Customers can expect additional new services within the next few months as C&WJ continues to invest in its network to ensure that we continue to provide the best service available'.
Two weeks ago The Gleaner revealed that C&W was poised to offer cheap Internet access and go head to head with other local Internet service providers (ISPs) such as Jamweb, the Grace, Kennedy & Co. arm, which offers unlimited Internet access for one relatively low price.
