Annette Howard, the bus driver who is being celebrated as a hero for helping to rescue passengers from the American Airlines' mishap last week, is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Bruce Golding this morning.

Communications manager at the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), Reginald Allen, said following the meeting the company will announce plans to "express its gratitude in a more tangible way".

As her whirlwind week continues, Howard met with her boss, JUTC Managing Director Paul Abrahams, yesterday and was lauded for her actions.

Howard had just completed her shift and was on her way to the JUTC's Rockfort Depot when she saw American Airlines Flight 331 overshoot the runway at the Norman Manley Airport, coming to a stop just metres from the sea.

She immediately ran to the aircraft and helped several injured passengers to her bus and drove them to hospital.
