Wolfe turns police watchdog chair

Retired Chief Justice Lensley Wolfe is the new chairman of the the Police Public Complaints Authority (PPCA).
He was appointed by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen and will take up the appointment next month.
Wolfe, 72, succeeds retired Supreme Court Judge Lloyd Ellis who died in October.
Wolfe retired as Chief Justice on June 26, 2007 after serving for 11 years.
Prior to becoming Chief Justice in 1996, Wolfe served as crown counsel in the Office of the Director of Prosecutions, he then practised at the Private Bar before being appointed a Resident Magistrate. He was subsequently appointed a Puisne Judge and then a Court of Appeal Judge.
The PPCA is an independent, non-police agency of the Ministry of Justice with the power to investigate allegations of misconduct filed by members of the public against members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and its auxiliaries.
Investigations are conducted in an impartial and objective fashion by the authority's investigative staff, which is made up solely of civilian employees.
