Reacting to information that there was a plot to attack patrons attending a well publicised stage show at Cling Cling Avenue, Kingston 11, on Sunday, the police revoked a permit they had earlier granted show organisers.

In a release Monday, the police advised members of the public that they retained the right to cancel any permit for the staging of entertainment events, if there were credible threats to public safety and order.

An example of such police intervention was Sunday's stage show, which had dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel among its headline acts.

The show was scheduled to be held at Olympic Way, St Andrew. The lawmen took the decision after receiving information that criminals in the area had planned to attack persons attending the event.

The St Andrew South police, in exercising discretionary powers of revoking such licences, said they believed it was in the best interest of public safety not to allow the event to take place.

Coincidentally, a man was murdered on White Wing Avenue early Saturday morning. White Wing Avenue is close to Cling Cling Avenue.

The police have urged event organisers that the promotion of such events must conform to the rules stipulated by the local authorities.
