Preying on returnees

Published: Monday | November 23, 2009

The Editor, Sir:

My wife and I attempted to send down from Britain, four barrels of prized possessions to our house here in Cousins Cove, Hanover. I handed the barrels over to the shipper on March 23 this year, and have not seen them since.

I have many times called the shipper but now realise he has a greater talent for evasion than for actually moving goods from point to point. Dismayed and resigned to never seeing my beloved curtains, pots and pans again, I was telling the sorry story to a carpenter who is doing some work on my house, when he said that his sister-in-law had a very bad experience importing her possessions from Britain. I asked if he could remember the people or company she used and he gave two names of a particular shipping company.

These were the very same fellows who are giving me the run about. Is this an incredible co-incidence or are there many other people who have suffered out there. Maybe through the pages of The Gleaner, we can create a coalition that can bring these two men to account. I would be very interested to hear from other people in a similar position to me and this lady. Please contact me by email at guy@worldsendhouses.com, or on my landline 956-9569.

I am, etc.,
