There is now a major musical buzz sweeping western Jamaica as retro music fans are now gearing up for the Off Tha Wall Retro Party, which is slated to rock the Pier One Complex in Montego Bay on Saturday.

Unlike the regular weekly parties that are staged at popular venues across the city, the bi-annual Off Tha Wall Retro Party is not only geared towards attracting a young crowd but also those persons who were teenagers and young adults back in the 1970s, 80s and 90s.

"It is a kind of rolling back the clock for those of us who grew up in the 1970s and 80s and knew what it was like to party in an ambience of real fun," said Nash Lawson of After 10 Productions. "It is also a chance to give the younger folks a taste of the music their parents grew up enjoying."

The Off Tha Wall Retro Party, which is the brainchild of Lawson - a selector/singer - was first staged in 2006 at the Upstream Bar and Grill at Port Bello in Montego Bay. It was such a hit with partygoers that Lawson was persuaded to make it a bi-annual event.

"We have basically answered the call of the fans and since 2006, we have been staging this Off Tha Wall Retro Party every last Saturday night in May and November," said Lawson. "We have outgrown all the venues we have used in the past hence the decision to stage this upcoming edition at the spacious Pier One Complex."

Fun-filled atmosphere

Lawson, who became a household name in Montego Bay as DJ Turbo in the late 1980s, said the party theme was taken from Michael Jackson's popular hit song, Off The Wall.

"It was all about creating a time and space where people could go to relax, unwind and reflect in a fun-filled atmosphere," said Lawson. "Thankfully our fans embraced the concept whole-heartedly."

Music will be provided by DJ Marvin of FAME FM, Crazy Chris and DJ Turbo himself.
