Though he has been named the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) Driver of the Year, Sheldon Morgan has not yet celebrated his achievement in motor sport.

"I have only had a small drink-up but no real celebration yet. Honestly, the feeling of winning the Abe Ziadie Memorial Trophy has not sunk in," said Morgan, who is pursuing computer management at the University of Technology, St Andrew.

Morgan was crowned champion at last weekend's two-day race meet at Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston.

top-five finishers

The top-five finishers for the Driver of the Year award were: Morgan 189.5 points; Thomas Issa 180; Matthew Williams 171.5; Williams Myers 162.5; and, Mario Mair 154.

Making his debut five years ago, the champion driver saw this season as the breakthrough year as, apart from his major title, he was among several drivers winning class championships.

These included Joshua Sirgany who won the 80cc class ahead of Richard Lechler and Justin Sirgany, his cousin. Thomas Issa took the top spot in the Rotax Mini Max, whereas Williams Myers and Frazer McConnell were second and third, respectively.
