Glenmore Hinds is now officially the Jamaica Constabulary Force's acting deputy commissioner of police (DCP) with responsibility for operations.

The veteran police officer was appointed by the Police Services Commission, which recommended that the DCP act in the position left by Owen Ellington, who has been appointed acting commissioner of police.

Ellington called the appointment wise, saying it was given to an officer who has the necessary qualities for the post.

''Glenmore Hinds represents the very best in the constabulary. He is experienced in almost all functional areas of operations, crime and intelligence, which supplies him with the knowledge and understanding necessary for him to perform in his new position. I am happy to welcome him and I am sure the country will benefit,'' Ellington said.

Hinds previously headed Operation Kingfish and other intelligence-driven areas of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

Attempts to get a comment from DCP Hinds proved futile.
