Restaurant Week a hit

THE FIFTH staging of the Gleaner-sponsored Restaurant Week has the night life in Kingston, St Andrew, Ocho Rios and Montego Bay alive and well.

Each night comes alive as Jamaicans come out to partake of the best in local cuisine.

Kingston

Palm Court Restaurant - Hilton Kingston Jamaica

"It's going very well. On Wednesday, we had 23 bookings. On Tuesday, 30," said Tamara Thompson, a restaurant supervisor at the hotel. She said people are so eager they have had to increase the number of bookings they were originally accepting.

Guilt trip

Colin Hilton reports that Guilt Trip has been buzzing and there are great reviews, especially for their great salt fish dishes.

Four Seasons

The hotel had 76 booking for opening night on Saturday.

Susie

They have been very busy, especially on their special nights with TruJuice Hawaiian theme and, of course, desserts to die for!

Terra Nova

Terra Nova has good booking.

Whitebones

Jamaicans love their seafood and the way it is done at Whitebones has kept them very busy.

Gimblyn

Gimblyn at the Alhambra Inn on Tucker Avenue notes that the response has been very good and it was booked out for the rest of the week.

Starapples

Supervisor at Starapples on Hope Road, Latoya Harris, told Food the week has been going very well. "During the week, it is a little slow which is understandable, but the weekend was lovely."

Spanish Court Hotel

Ursula Wiesmann, assistant manager, food and beverage, said, "It is going quite well. We are fully booked for the week. We are not taking anymore reservations unless there are cancellations. We actually have a waiting list for persons, just in case there is space. But we are chock-full."

Strawberry Hill

The week has also been going well for the Irish Town hot-spot. According to Stacy Gayle, events coordinator, "Restaurant Week has been going really well. We have had great turn-outs on the different nights and have received great reviews. We are fully booked out for the remaining nights and we have put persons on our waiting list who we call daily if a space becomes available."

The Reef Seafood Restaurant and Bar

Stacey-ann Madurie, waitress at the seafood eatery, told Food, "It has been going good during the week. Of course, like on a Monday it wasn't so fast, but today (Wednesday), we are fully booked, as well as on Friday. Overall, it has been going good."

Ocho Rios

The owner of Spring Gardens, Mr White, is very happy with the turn-out so far.

Evita's

Evita's has been kept very busy with 50 reservations on the first night of Restaurant Week. "Its great! Right now, anybody who is calling for Friday and Saturday, I'm trying to convince them to come earlier," said owner Eva Myers. "The nicest thing is being in Ocho Rios and people are travelling from Kingston to come to Evita's. I'm flattered," said Myers.

Montego Bay


The Pelican Grill Restaurant was buzzing with eager customers who took advantage of Restaurant Week in Montego Bay on Tuesday. Dean Salmon and Stidonney Spencer were no different as they enjoyed the mouth-watering entrées the restaurant had to offer.

Restaurateurs in the Second City couldn't be happier.

Pier One

Jason Russell remains very hopeful for the week and is impressed with Calico Jack.

The Margaritaville group

According to Scott Robbins the week has been very encouraging.

Twisted Kilt

CEO André Dixon reported very good numbers for his eatery.

Rum Jungle

It has been a little slow, but they are very enthusiastic about show component and are confident that the weekend will pick up.

Chilitos

It is a family affair at Chilitos, with families coming out with their children.

the Pelican restaurant

"So far, it's been going well. The start was wonderful and people have been calling in for the upcoming weekend," said Courtney Hudson, a supervisor at the restaurant.
