Kameka

ONE OF the three men convicted on September 15 for the murder of 48-year-old Assistant Police Commissioner Gilbert Kameka has been sentenced to hang, while the others were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Massinissa Adams, 27, of Industry Village, St Andrew, and Paris Avenue, Passagefort, St Catherine, was sentenced yesterday to hang at the end of a lengthy sentencing hearing in the Home Circuit Court.

Kemar Dawkins, 20, mason, of Standpipe, St Andrew, was sentenced to life imprisonment, but is not eligible for parole until he has served 30 years. Rohan Townsend, 26, construction worker, of Irish Town, St Andrew, was sentenced to life imprisonment, but is to serve 20 years before he is eligible for parole.

Adams the mastermind

Adams fatally shot Kameka in a house in Irish Town on November 29, 2007, and took his firearm from his waist.

Senior Puisne Judge Marva McIntosh, in sentencing the men, described Adams as the master-mind behind the plan to rob Kameka of his firearm.

She also pointed out that Adams had fired the fatal shot.

The judge described Dawkins as a "follower", who was influenced by Adams. The judge said Townsend played a small but important role because he was the informer and kept Adams abreast of what was happening in Irish Town.
