NETHERLANDS - Int'l group ranks countries for climate change investments

AMSTERDAM (AP):

An international investment group has ranked the best countries for investing in renewable energy, placing Germany, China and France as the least risky.

Other low-risk countries listed by Deutsche Bank are Brazil, Australia and Japan.

The report is the latest study to suggest current policies and plans will fail to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by enough to avert serious changes in the world's climate.

The report released Monday is unusual among the flurry of climate studies as it takes the investors' viewpoint and lists countries according to their business environment.

It says the US and Canada lack long-term and transparent policies to lend certainty to investments in renewable energy or energy efficiency.
