An angry public servant

Published: Friday | October 16, 2009

The Editor, Sir:

I am a government employee of eight years and I am a proud one.

Whichever party is in power I still do my job to the best of my ability.

I am really not into the party siding when it comes to the job. I work with whoever is set above me. But right about now I am confused as to what is happening.

At Post and Telecommunications Department where I work there is no air-conditioning unit. The fans have stopped working for two weeks now and the procurement manager says that there is no money to repair or replace them.

Angry and miserable

There has been no toilet tissue for about two months now; we have to take supplies from our homes. Even small items such as pens we have to purchase with our own money.

So when I read my Sunday Gleaner (October 11) and saw where a minister purchased a chair for ($77,046), I became angry and even more miserable.

Since then, it has come to my attention that restrictions are being put in place to stop us from using our private laptops at work. But we are not using their internet service, we have modems from private telecommunications companies. Isn't this the height of oppression? Could someone please tell me what is happening, especially where I work?

I am, etc.,

J. BLACK
