PM to chair public sector reform body

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has started to develop a framework for guiding the consultative process of public-sector reform in a bid to meet the designated implementation date of April 2010.

Daryl Vaz, minister with responsibility for information, told journalists during yesterday's post-Cabinet press briefing that the prime minister would be chairman of the reform committee as he considered the process to be of the highest priority.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has taken temporary responsibility for the Ministry of National Security following the hospitalisation of its minister, Senator Dwight Nelson.

Nelson spent yesterday undergoing tests in hospital after he was admitted with abdominal pains on Tuesday night.

He told The Gleaner from his hospital bed that medical personnel had diagnosed a problem with his stomach, but he did not elaborate.

According to Nelson, he consulted his personal physician, Dr Denise Eldemire Shearer, on Tuesday night and she referred him to hospital after he complained of severe stomach pains.

The national security minister said yesterday he was feeling much better and that he was in high spirits.
