Jamaica's Foreign Affairs Minister, Kenneth Baugh, who will represent CARICOM on a 12-member Organisation of American States (OAS) mission, is due to arrive in Honduras today.

A brief OAS statement said that the visit of the delegation, which also includes OAS Secretary, General José Miquel Insulza, is aimed at "promoting dialogue and the restoration of democracy in this country".

Last month, CARICOM said it viewed with "grave concern" the unfolding situation in Honduras following the removal of the democratically elected President, Manuel Zelaya, by the military in June.

Zelaya has since made a dramatic return to the country, taking up refuge in Brazil's embassy in Tegucigalpa.

There are reports that aides to the ousted leader are to hold talks with the aides to the interim leader, Roberto Micheletti, who has demanded that Brazil hand over Zelaya to stand trial.

CARICOM said that it viewed the "presence of President Zelaya at the Embassy of Brazil in his country, as an opportunity for dialogue towards a peaceful resolution to the current situation. The Caribbean Community hopes this opportunity will be seized."
