Two-time champions Munro College took over sole leadership of Zone E of the 2009 ISSA/ Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup yesterday afternoon when they came away from their top-of-the-table clash with St Elizabeth Technical High School with a 1-0 win.

Munro, who moved to 10 points and are now firm favourites to top the group, got their all important goal from Jordon Dell towards the end of the first half.

"This is a good result for us as it means we are not only the sole leaders of the zone but we also remain unbeaten," said Munro's coach Hopeton Gilchrist.

Over in Montego Bay, defending champions St James extended their perfect record to four games in Zone A, spanking Green Pond High 4-0 to move to 12 points. Last year's golden boot winner, Allan Ottey, Rushane Reid, Randy Myrie and Christopher Haynes were the players on target for the Pastor Hugh Solomon-coached team.

good performance

"This was a fairly good performance today as the team seems to be settling down and playing as a unit," said Pastor Solomon. "It is good that we have not given up a goal since the start of the season."

In another game in Montego Bay, the competition's most successful team had a good afternoon against city rivals Herbert Morrison, coming away with a 3-2 win in their game at Jarrett Park. Cornwall College are now on nine points, having lost the three points they had gained against Maldon, who have withdrawn from the competition.

Cornwall College got their goals through skipper Oraine Graham (2) and Oraine Lewis while Herbert Morrison scored through Jason Marshall (2).

In the big Zone I clash between Glenmuir and Garvey Maceo, the teams battled to a 1-1 draw. The result means that Garvey Maceo stay atop the zone with 10 points while Glenmuir move up to six.
