A number of chefs have taken up the challenge for the much-anticipated Restaurant Week 2009, by including a Jamaican favourite on their menus - salt fish.

The versatile salt fish will be featured in creative and innovative dishes that will combine the fusion of Chinese, contemporary and local cuisine. Among the participating restaurants are Gimbilyn Restaurant at Alhambra Inn, Guilt Trip, The Reef (all in the Corporate Area) and Restaurant Week newcomers Seahorse Grill and Pelican in Montego Bay.

The well-known Corporate Area food spot, Dragon City Restaurant, will add to its main course offerings a twist on its Chinese favourite - chicken and salt fish fried rice. Meanwhile, Gimbilyn will be keeping it 'local' with salt fish rundown in coconut curry rum sauce served over Jamaican polenta. Pasta lovers will not be left out as Guilt Trip will entice its patrons with a unique salt fish pasta dish.

Restaurant Week will run from November 7 to 14. Keep reading The Gleaner's award-winning Food section for more.
