With Saturday's enterprising opening day at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay now history, action will resume in the 2009 ISSA/ Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup football competition this afternoon at 3 p.m. with action in 10 games spanning four of the 12 zones.

In today's action, which will see the completion of the Zone A first-round fixture, Dr Dean Weatherley, who led Cornwall College to three titles, will make his debut as coach of two-time (1986, 1988) champions Herbert Morrison Technical, with a home assignment against the Dane Randall-conditioned Green Pond High.

Besides the Herbert Morrison game in Zone A, the Zone J fixture, which will feature a showdown between 1979 and '81 champions Dinthill Technical facing Glengoffe High, should generate a fair amount of interest.

In the other games in zone J, Bog Walk will battle Charlemont High, while Ewarton will oppose McGrath.

While Zone D has not figured prominently in the outcome of the daCosta Cup in recent years, with perennial Zone A contenders William Knibb High now switched to that zone, today's three games - William Knibb against Brown's Town, York Castle versus Marcus Garvey and Ocho Rios against Aabuttnott Gallimore - should generate much more than the customary cursory interest.

Meanwhile, Saturday's second daCosta Cup game turned out to be a seven-goal thriller, with Cornwall College winning 4-3 over arch-rivals Maldon. Cornwall goals were scored by Jamaal Whittaker, Javaughn Reid, Ramon Foster (penalty) and Oraine Graham. Maldon's goals came from Jermaine Jackson, Obrian Robinson and Oshane McLeod.
