MoBay traffic changes worrying

The Editor, Sir:

Changes are necessary in all areas of a country although some individuals accept changes with some apprehension. The intended traffic changes for the Montego Bay motoring public are already causing concern to motorists. They are still uncomfortable with the planned changes.

There were speculations that the changes would have taken effect September 1. This did not happen. Travelling along the roads in Montego Bay, the newly erected traffic lights are quite noticeable. It is very difficult to understand why the authorities have chosen to proceed without a more aggressive public-education programme. In preparation for motorists to get accustomed to the changes, it would have been more appropriate to have had the lights working prior to the beginning of the new school term.

Montego Bay is already a maze of one-way streets that the citizens have grown accustomed to. When will the lights be switched on? Is it really necessary to have so many traffic lights in one small city?

Where is the voice of the parish council in all of this?

It is my understanding that printed material would have been circulated throughout the city. To date, there has been no such activity.

I am, etc.,
