Wasteful finishing denies Boys' Town, Village

Western Bureau:
In a game where both teams squandered numerous scoring opportunities, former champions Boys' Town and western Jamaica's sole contender Village United played to an intriguing 0-0 draw in the Digicel Premier League match at the Elliston Wakeland Youth Centre in Falmouth.
While Village United's coach Cassman Williams felt the game could have gone either way based on the chances created, his Boys' Town counterpart, Andrew Price, felt his team got the better chances and should have won.
"Getting a point on the road is usually a good result but I feel we should have taken all three points today," said Price, whose team would have started favourites based on the rankings. "We got too many chances here today not to be leaving with all three points."
Quality chance
While Boys' Town might have got the better chances, the first quality chance of the game fell to Village United in the second minute. Mouracio Gordon found himself with space inside Boys' Town's goal area, but his hasty effort was slotted wide.
Boys' Town came to life in the eighth minute and should have taken the lead when Peter Keyes found himself with a clear shot on goal. However, he hesitated and was dispossessed by a recovering Cordell Simpson.
Four minutes later, Keyes was again off target, driving a close-range effort over the crossbar.
With action swinging from end to end, Kofi Shaw created a glorious chance for Village at the 30th minute when he dribbled through the heart of the Boys' Town defence, but his shot from the edge of the goal area was directed wide.
Easiest of chances
With time running out in the half, Boys' Town missed the easiest of chances when the diminutive Shawn McKoy fired straight at the goalkeeper from four yards after he found himself clear inside the goal area.
The second half lacked the intensity of the first, although chances were created at opposite ends. Moments into the second half, at least three Boys' Town players kicked and missed in a mêlée at goalmouth.
"It was a good game and with better finishing we could have won the game," said Village's Williams. "A point against Boys' Town is not a bad result and hopefully we will get better as the season progresses."
