Congratulation to the National Works Agency for constructing a two-lane bridge at Gordon Town. This bridge facilitates the free movement of traffic to Mavis Bank and all the communities in upper St Andrew and part of St Thomas.
It replaced an old, single-lane metal bridge which, since the increase of traffic in the mid '90s, had become a point of delay.
This job seemed to have been done with no delay and hindrance to travellers.

Please allow me through this medium to call attention to a most deplorable and hazardous situation which exists at the intersection of Church and Charles streets in downtown Kingston.
This is not something that can be easily described, one needs to see it in order to understand the gravity thereof.
It is a burning shame, and to think that the raw sewage flowing on the street is almost in front of the business place used by the chairman of the Jamaica Manufacturers' Association. It is unbelievable!

Given the influx of new universities that we have been seeing over the last few years, with the certainty of institutions of higher learning to come in the near and distant future, I think that sooner or later questions will arise as to the quality of their degrees, diplomas, certificates, etc.
The University of Technology is an institution I know very little about, except from what I have gleaned through the media, encounters I have had with its graduates and my brief visits there over the years.
I think the time has come to rename UTech The University of Jamaica - which, in fact, is what it is.

I am in full support of your editorial, 'The PM's new challenge', dated September 1.
The United States government has given the Jamaican authorities a glorious opportunity to put a real dent in organised crime if the allegations against Christopher 'Dudus' Coke are indeed true. But, it is also true that to declare guilt or innocence of any person is foolhardy.
However, based on international treaties which our government has signed, they will need to allow the law to take its course.
Indeed, we will all be watching the outcome of this imbroglio with interest.
