Zachary leaves Freeport board
Zachary Harding

Zachary Harding has resigned from the Montego Freeport Limited's board, effective August 28.

He was named to the board less than a year ago, in November 2008, when he was deputy tourism director at the Jamaica Tourist Board, ending two years of public service.

Montego Freeport is a publicly listed but majority state-owned overseer of seaside properties owned by the Government in Montego Bay.

But Harding has since rejoined the private sector as chief executive officer of Gordon 'Butch' Stewart's Appliance Traders Limited, a post he assumed four months ago.

Lascelles chairman replaced

Lascelles deMercado and Company Limited has advised that Shafeek Gregory Amrall Sultan-Khan, Alison Lewis, and Steve Bideshi were appointed directors of the company, with immediate effect, at the board of directors meeting held on August 28.

Shafeek was also appointed chairman, replacing Lawrence Duprey.

Hughes assumes ministry post

Dr Wesley Hughes has taken up his new post as financial secretary at the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, effective September 1.

Hughes, an economist who ran the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) as director general for 14 years, fills the slot vacated by Sharon Crooks.

Hughes career spans academia, bauxite, planning, and central banking.

He worked in different capacities with the PIOJ over time before becoming its head in 1995.

Coye now chief diplomat


Evadne Coye

Ambassador Evadne Coye has been appointed permanent secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, replacing Gail Mathurin who had the job for 10 months.

The position opened up after Mathurin was selected director general of the Office of Trade Negotiations, formerly known as the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery.

Both women are career diplomats.

Coye joined the foreign ministry in 1975 and has had postings worldwide since 1992, her last in Canada where she served as resident ambassador from January 2007.

She takes up her new post in Kingston in November.

New sales manager for Sunset

Sunset Resorts Jamaica, owned by the Hendricksons, has announced the appointment of Natasha Lee Soy as sales manager for the Northeast United States.

Lee Soy will be responsible for growing sales in areas like Connecticut, New York, New England and the northern sections of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Sunset Resorts operates three Jamaican properties - Sunset Beach Resort & Spa, Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa and Sunset at the Palms.

Shaw takes seat on LIME board


David Shaw

David Shaw, the newly appointed chief executive officer of LIME Caribbean, has joined the board of Cable & Wireless Jamaica/LIME Jamaica as director.

He replaces Richard Dodd who gave up his directorship on August 19, consequent on his resignation from his job as LIME Caribbean CEO.

Shaw's ascension to the board was approved at a special board meeting on August 12.
