St Ann Bauxite, Up Park Camp for T20 openers

Jamaica Defence Force's Up Park Camp and St Ann Cricket Association's home ground, St Ann Bauxite Sports Club, formerly Kaiser Bauxite Sports Club, will host the opening rounds of the inaugural national Red Stripe Twenty20 Championship.

The venues, which will be two of five that will be used throughout the month-long tournament, will see both hosting double headers on the weeked of Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13. The competition will be played on a knockout basis.

At Up Park Camp, which after Hurricane damages was renovated recently, will first host Kensington Dragons versus St Thomas Prodigals at 10 a.m. and Lucas Eagles against Portland Alligators at 2 p.m. on September 12th, while on September 13, Police Hammers will face Kingston and St Andrew Titans at 10 a.m. and JDF Brigades go up against Boys' Town Beavers at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, St Ann Bauxite, which has in the past hosted regional matches, will host Westmoreland Wizards versus GC Foster Crocodiles at 10 a.m. and Clarendon Bulls against St Catherine Parish Crusaders at 2 p.m. on September 12; and Hanover Dolphins versus St James Sparrows at 10 a.m. and St Mary Enforcers against St Ann Cutters on September 13th.

"We feel good to know that St Ann has been chosen as one of the five venues. We have good facilities in terms of cricket and the parish is playing a lot of cricket, perhaps more than any other parish ," said St Ann Cricket Association president, Keith Walford.

"As a matter of fact, looking around at the number of venues that are available in Jamaica, I believe St Ann Bauxite is in the top three," he added.

The other venues, Chedwin Park, Alpart Sports Club and Sabina Park, will host the second round, quarter-final round, semi-final and finals of the championship, which will offer over $2.5 million in cash and prizes.

Chedwin Park will host a set of second round matches, which will see the introduction of the championships eight seeded teams; Alpart will host the quarter-finals, while Sabina Park will host the semi-final and final on the weekend of Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4.

The seeded teams are the top six from last season's two-day JCA Super League, plus two invited teams.

The Super League teams are St Catherine Saints, Melbourne Kangaroos, Trelawny Buccaneers, Kingston Tigers, St Elizabeth Warriors and Manchester Lions, while the invitational teams are last season's national SDC champions, South Star Flames and Jamaica Masters, which will feature past national and regional stalwarts.
