Whether on the road or on the track, patience, good judgement and discipline are key components drivers must possess.
But what makes a good driver?
Automotives sought to find out.
"Apart from a well-prepared and reliable motor car, the driver should be knowledgeable about the vehicle, so he would know when to pressure the car and when to back off," said veteran race driver, Noel Golding, Sr.
Golding explained that a good driver should be disciplined and know how to preserve his car."It is not just his ability," he said. "He must know how to drive carefully so his car can finish the race."
For race driver Peter Rae, good judgement and precision, clinical driving techniques and physical fitness are key.
"Track time is very important," he said. "Experience is key and this how they learn from their mistakes," Rae continued.
Chippy Addison, who has competed in both circuit and Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club events, stressed that a driver must remain calm at all times, in addition to be patient.
"A driver must know when to go hard and when to take it easy, discipline is very key," said Addison.
Driving instructor Keith Johnson believes quick reflex, personality and discipline are essential components for a good driver.
"If someone is aggressive, then it will comes out in their driving," said Johnson, who has been teaching for three decades.
A good driver has to be prepared and alert ... They must not take things for granted," he continued.
