The nation's top four women's football teams - Barbican, Harbour View, Waterhouse and Portmore Strikers - will set their sights on the Sherwin Williams Colourscape Knockout semi-finals, with the quarter-final round getting under way today.

The four, who will also contest the semi-finals of the Sherwin Williams League competition, will play opponents who have been eliminated from the league and are still hoping to snare some silverware this season.

In the feature match Waterhouse, who finished with the most points in the preliminary round of the league and are favoured to take at least one of the available titles this season, will take on Portmore Strikers, who finished second to Barbican in Zone A of the league.

Barbican, who are the defending league champions, will face Marverley/Hughenden, who finished fourth in Zone B.

Interesting matchup

"It's should be a pretty interesting matchup should Marverley turn up," said Barbican coach, Charles Edwards, while making reference to their opponents no-show in their final preliminary round fixture against Portmore Strikers.

"However, if they do, I would like to know that Barbican also turn up and play attractively and get the desired results," he added.

In other matches, Zone B runners-up and defending knockout champions Harbour View will square off with newcomers Santos, who finished a surprise fourth in Zone B, while Trelawny Women's, who finished third in Zone A, will entertain Reno, who finished in an identical position in Zone B, at the Elliston Wakeland Centre, in a rural area derby.

In the Harbour View-Santos encounter, the match is expected to tilt in favour of the former, who defeated them twice this season, but according to Harbour View coach, Vin Blaine, they will not be taking their opponents likely.

"We are optimistic of winning but not overly confident that we can. We have won twice so far and the law of averages suggest that they should put in a better performance. But having said, I have confidence in my girls to pull it off, albeit we have a few injures," said Blaine.

Meanwhile, action in the semi-finals of the league competition will be played on Wednesday, September 5, with the return leg slated for September 12.
