No more excuses for crime situation

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Mr Prime Minister, I beg you, sir, to help us. I beg you to see that Jamaica is at war and our decent, hard-working, moral citizens are losing this battle. They are losing their homes, kids and self-worth.

Mr Prime Minister, it is time for us to step up and right this ship. We as a country must say no more to rape, no more to canal abuse, no more to robbery, no more to larceny, no more to murder, no more to extortion, no more to dons, no more to bribery, no more to corrupt police officer and politician, no more ... and we mean, no more!

The Gleaner reports these frightening statistics: "Shootings climbed by 34 per cent while rapes jumped by 32 per cent. The number of robberies reported also climbed by 34 per cent while the number of larceny cases increased by 83 per cent."

Mr Prime Minister, when are you going to lead this country with the slogan 'No More!!' No more excuses! We need 100 per cent accountability from all the seated ministers. It is time for action! We can't save everyone but our priority must be our youths. We need the minister of education to fix the school system, so that we can produce educated and moral youths. Both the minister of industry, investment and commerce and minister of agriculture and fisheries need to find ways to keep our youths off the streets and into productive jobs. We need the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture to keep our youths actively involved in the communities.

As for those wrongdoers, rapists, and so-called dons, the minister of justice and attorney general and minister of national security must issue a final non-negotiable warning that the people of Jamaica say "no more!" We know the dons' names! We all know where they live! We know about the rapists and the gunmen! It is time for us to go pick them up. No more excuses! It is time to remove the Jamaican cancer and let our youths grow. For those who protect these social cancers, we need to label them as accessory to crime and also remove them. Mr Prime Minister you must state to the people of Jamaica, "You are either with us or against us. There is no middle ground."

Jamaica is at war and it is time for zero tolerance to crime.

I am, etc.,
