NOTE-WORTHY

  • Proud of Team Jamaica

I AM so proud of my Jamaican runners in Berlin and I am equally proud of Jamaicans in their endeavour to give support to all of their participants, whether they come first or last.

Despite what some people might think of Jamaicans and our country, we are a proud people who give support in fine spirit and share love among each other. Taken away from our troubled times, we are a nation of happy-go-lucky individuals who will always strive to do our best and believe strongly in our young people.

  • IAAF needs toget with it!

I have big issue with the International Association Athletics Federations (IAAF) and what I consider to be a big disrespect to Jamaica athletics. Jamaica broke the 4x100 men's relay record last year at the Beijing Olympics in 37.10 secs and the IAAF still has not updated its website after a year. The old United States record still stands.

  • We salute Veronica

Veronica's mother should not have to worry. Her daughter has done Jamaica, and Jamaicans the world over, proud. I am sure all of us, no matter where we are, salute her.

  • Prioritise peopleover pageantry

The best way to celebrate our athletes' achievement in Germany is to make a commitment that we will never allow what happened to our girls at Armadale to happen again.

I suspect that if the tribute money that the Government and private sector plan to spend for the welcome-home ceremony for the athletes was used to make life better for our children in state care, the athletes would not object. This time, let us prioritise people over pageantry.

  • A Delicatebalance of power

Hopefully, the decision of the National Democratic Movement to contest the Clarendon North West by-election will help people realise that an uneven number of constituencies does not guarantee a clear margin for any party. Indeed, it could make the balance of power even more delicate.
