The Jamaica Omnibus Service Company (JOS) is yet to be wound up more than nine years after the Cabinet instructed that this was to be done, contributing to the inability of the Port Authority of Jamaica to get a title for the house it bought from the defunct entity.

The property, which was bought for $35 million almost a year now, is the house in which the transport minister, Mike Henry, is living.

In a statement received by our news centre, the Port Authority said on November 25, 2008, it executed the instrument of transfer for the property.

According to the authority, in March this year, the instrument of transfer was sent to the titles office to be processed.

But it said a month later, the Titles Office sent back the document, advising that it must first have an original certificate of good standing from the Registrar of Companies for the JOS.

However, the certificate of good standing cannot be produced because the JOS is now defunct.

As a result, it is understood that efforts are being made at the ministry level to finally wind up the JOS to facilitate transactions relating to its assets.
