Shelly-Ann Fraser's grandmother, Phedalia Simpson, doesn't joke when she is talking about her granddaughter's chances of winning a gold medal at the World Championships in Berlin. Grandma, along with Shelly-Ann's aunt, Julia Simpson (background), will be watching the races from their home in Waterhouse.

When Shelly-Ann Fraser starts her bid at the World Championships in Berlin she will be supported by prayer all the way.

Phedalia Simpson, Fraser's grandmother, says she is praying that God will give her the victory.

"Mi start fast already, she just have to go out there and do her best," said Simpson.

"It is not just Shelly-Ann, I'm praying for all the athletes that God will help them to do their best," she added.

Julia Simpson, Fraser's aunt, said that she was worried on hearing that her niece might not run because she missed a mandatory training camp.

"I thank God when I heard that she would be able to run," she said.

The community of Waterhouse, St Andrew, was quiet when The Gleaner team visited yesterday.

Last year's celebrations

But the celebrations of last year suggest this could easily change if Fraser repeats her Beijing success.

Last year, joy erupted in the community, as residents rattled pot covers, signalling their happiness with the victory of their hometown star.

Residents are expecting nothing less but success from the Olympian in the World Championships.

"Yah, man, she a guh gwaan good," said Roy, a resident of the area.

Sleep is also out of the question for those in Waterhouse today.

"Wi a guh sit up and bleach fi watch it, that a nuh nutt'n fi wi," said Karen Blackwood.

Blackwood said last year the community watched the Olympics from a big screen television set.

"Mi nuh sure what plans they have this year, but anyway wi affi si Shelly run," she said.
