FALMOUTH, Trelawny:
Bottom-place team Constant Spring weathered a torrid time to eke out a nil-all draw with third-place Trelawny Women in the Sherwin Williams Women's Football Premier League at Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth on Wednesday.
Trelawny moved to 17 points while Constant Spring have nine.
While the lines were blurred as to who dominated the first half, it was clear that the Trelawny aggregation conquered the second half. A hat-trick of misses from Kemuela Onfroy could cause Trelawny to be cursing their luck.
The first miss came about midway the first half as, after dismissing a defender, a side-footed jab missed the bar. The other two misses came from through passes which, although she had the advantage, kicked wide in both instances.
The Trelawny team gained the advantage when Constant Spring's coach, Junior Francis, pulled the speedy forward Skanika Rochester. Her speed made her a thorn in the flesh for the Trelawny Women and she seemed able, at anytime, outsprint the defenders to score.
The most influential force which orchestrated the draw by keeping the Trelawny Women at bay could have been Tifanny Nash. She was a Trojan in the defence, gaining ascendancy on any 50-50 chance.
The very skilful Trelawny forward, 14-year-old Shaneka Miller, was outstanding but got little support.
Francis admitted his team was outplayed in the second half and he is not aiming for miracles this year, but believes his team will be highly competitive in the future.
