Rupert Hartley has retired from RJR. - File

Rupert Hartley, Radio Jamaica Limited's director of finance and administration, has retired effective August 1.

Andrea Messam has since replaced him, and her old job as director of business and commercial strategy has been merged with that of her financial portfolio. Messam's new title is director of finance.

The portfolio for administration now falls under human resources, RJR said.

The media group's former deputy financial controller, Orlet Grant Burris, is also acting in the post of group financial controller.

New SBAJ president, board

Damla James has been elected president of the Small Business Association of Jamaica (SBAJ), succeeding Edward Chin-Mook.

James is a former treasurer of the association.

The SBAJ elected a new 12-member board for 2009/2010 term at its annual general meeting, which in turn selected James last month as the new leader. The board includes past president Chin Mook, first vice-president Dr Meredith Derby, second VP Hensley Barr, secretary Bridgette Steele, assistant secretary Dollis Campbell, treasurer Charmaine Gravesandy, and assistant treasurer Hugh Johnson.The other members are Dawn Grant, Gale Peart, Howard Johnson Jr., Kevin Frith, Hugh Thompson and Oswald Smith.

James is a chartered accountant with his own practice, Dalma James and Associates which operates out of Ivy Crescent in Kingston. He has been with the SBAJ for over five years the latter two of which he served as treasurer.

New ICAC leadership

Harryram Parmesar has been elected president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean (ICAC), whose membership covers seven national institutes and some 3,000 accounting professionals.

Parmesar, who is a partner of Solomon, Parmesar & Company, was first appointed to the ICAC board in 1998, has served as secretary and vice-president in previous administrations, and has held the post of chairman of the ICAC's technical committee.

The Guyanese has also represented his country as representative on the ACCA's International Assembly.

He is also a past president and current council member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Guyana.

His ICAC team includes vice- president Joan Brathwaite of Deloitte in Barbados, secretary Daniel Ferguson of Daniel H. Ferguson and Associates Chartered Accountants in the Bahamas, and treasurer Prunella Vassell of Paul Goldson and Company in Jamaica.
