  • Creating havoc

The Jamaica Constabulary Force is being sabotaged by a few amateurs and this needs to be addressed. As I travel the island, I am surprised at the professionalism of the Jamaican police; so where are all these negative occurances between the police and locals coming from?

I am of the opinion that, as in any institution, you will find a few rejects and the Jamaican Constabulary Force is no exception. The problem stems from the policy of the institution itself, whereby no officer at any rank seems prepared to make the necessary changes to enforce a new system whereby the good officers can expose and expel the not-so-good ones.

The result of this is that a few unscrupulous officers are causing havoc within our communities and literally getting away with murder. How can the hierarchy of the police force allows this to continue?

  • Democracy or tyranny

In her letter published on Friday, August 7, Ms Doreen McGann, in her criticism of Father Ho Lung, appears to be suggesting that some citizens of a democracy do not have the right to comment on all matters of public policy. Where does this view come from? Is it the same source as that which has posited that medical personnel who do not perform abortions should be jailed/fined if they do not tell the woman where she can procure one? Is this a new tyranny?

  • State the facts, please

What kind of tax break will the Sandal Hotel chain get for the refurbishing of the Whitehouse hotel? Will it be in the $534 million bracket too? I understand that if a hotel does this type of work every five years they will pay no corporate tax for a couple of years. We the people of Jamaica need to know the facts to make informed decisions.

  • Misinformed

The Gleaner headline of Wednesday, August 5, 'Air J Mayday', is the most flagrant misuse of language. May day is usually the last voice of a pilot before an enforced landing or ditching in the sea. At a time when tourism is so vital to Jamaica, why should anyone create the false impression that Air Jamaica is unsafe. The parties involved should be fired for misinformation.
