Good old 'Porti', a world away

Good old Port Antonio (or Porti as some call it) seems a world away.

The inviting waters off the shore, the flora and the crisp air make the Corporate Area look like it's in another country. A majestic new courthouse, a very popular marina (which hosts one of the world's most 'irie' marlin tournaments) and a laid-back townspeople all make the capital the type of place you'd love to visit.

Anticipated events

The jerk festival at Folly Oval is one of the island's most anticipated annual events. Throw in one of Jamaica's storied schools (Titchfield High) and you understand how this corner of paradise has a place in the heart of Jamaicans. Plans are aplenty for the development of Port Antonio, the Titchfield peninsula and a craft market being just two of them.

We found residents of Porti to be very opinionated and welcoming, sharing their views on the future (and the past) of the capital. We found that the outlook was not all rosy, with some folks more optimistic than others.
