  • Montague should not apologise

I hope junior minister of local government, Robert Montague does not apologise to the matron of the Port Antonio infirmary for his outburst. We need to stop majoring in the minors and be serious about accountability.

How come I have not heard of anyone asking that the matron be fired? Is it that they all are in agreement that the state the infirmary was in "ah nuh nutten"?

Some 'Christian' women group has joined the chorus, seeking an apology. I guess they haven't read In the Bible examples of Jesus chastising the leaders of his day in much stronger language e.g. "whitewashed tombs, vipers etc". Give me a break.

  • The EU and politics

Father Ho Lung needs to understand the politics behind the European Union's position. Under the 'Mexico City Policy', initiated under President Ronald Reagan, the US government could not provide funding for family-planning services to clinics or groups that offered abortion-related services overseas. It basically barred recipients of US foreign aid from promoting abortion as a method of family planning.

President Barack Hussein Obama, whose personal position on this issue is to the left of Planned Parenthood, only two days after his inauguration, signed an executive order overturning this anti-abortion policy. Hence, pro-abortion extremists in countries where the religion of secularism is practised, now feel they are completely vindicated by making their foreign aid contingent upon acceptance of killing unborn children, the exact reverse of the intent of the Mexico City Policy.

I cannot remember a single column from Father Ho Lung praising President Bush for his anti-abortion stance. In fact, President Bush received nothing but scorn for daring to promote life. Perhaps Father Ho Lung will correct me.

  • Thirty years late

I can see that the minister of agriculture is making an effort to revive the sector, which is a very good move at this time, but I think as a country we are more than 30 years late.

In the 1970s Michael Manley came up with a production plan with the theme of 'Produce or perish; eat what you grow and grow what you eat'. For some reason he was not supported.

If we Jamaicans had answered Manley's call we would be in a better position today . All the persons who are 30 years old and younger would have grown up to see us eating what we grow and growing what we eat.

I think the time has come for us, regardless of our religious or political belief, to join hands together to make this blessed nation a better place for all of us to live.
