Kingston Logistics Centre offers affordable alternative homes

This 20-foot steel-framed home is a one-bedroom unit perfect for a single person.
Kingston Logistics Centre Limited (KLC) has extended its portfolio beyond logistics solutions and is now offering housing solutions at an affordable price.
The logistics centre, which has been offering such solutions since 2006, has joined forces with Mod Space Limited, a new company established locally to steer this venture. Both companies have capitalised on the need for reasonably priced homes by transforming regular containers into high-quality steel-framed accommodations. These homes are available in both 20-foot and 40-foot sizes.
"We are delighted to introduce our wide range of container accommodations bringing an affordable alternative solution to prospective homeowners, entrepreneurs and civil servants," Michael Cohen, general manager of KLC, said.
According to Cohen, the high-quality steel-framed structures are modified to be conducive to an individual's particular need. The use of the modified structures are varied and can be used not only for homes, but for classrooms, office space, dormitories, hurricane-relief shelters, portable medical clinics, barracks for military and police as well as other security forces.
"Our finished products are aesthetically pleasing and fitted with high-quality modern amenities of European standard electrically fitted with 110-volt American standard," Cohen pointed out.
Features
The features of the structures include a dry-wall finish with added insulation using an EPS polystyrene panel frame. The insulated properties reduce heat, which is ideal for humid weather condition and is a big energy saver.
Each home can be customised depending on the use and this process can be completed within six weeks and has a three-year guarantee. The structures are rust resistant due to the tambutex finish. They also have the ability to be raised to up to two storeys and be extended even beyond 10 containers. Buyers have the option of joining the containers by welding or the use of screws.
KLC is a joint venture between Jamaica Fruit and Shipping Company Limited and Zim Integrated Shipping Services Limited.
