Jamaica's Olympic silver medallist Sherone Simpson, who underwent surgery on her knee late last year, has returned to the track.

Simpson was at the DAK Leichtathletik-Gala track and field meet yesterday, where she finished second in the women's 100 metres in a commendable 11.12 seconds.

The MVP athlete was beaten by Germany's Verena Sailer, who edged in front in 11.11.

The meet was apparently good for come-backs as St Kitts and Nevis' ex-World 100-metre champion Kim Collins landed the sprint double there.

Collins, the 2003 world champion and 2005 bronze medallist over 100 metres, clocked a wind-aided 10.08 seconds (+2.3 metres per second) to take a very close victory over American Mark Jelk (10.09) and Portugal's Francis Obikwelu (10.10).

Season best run

The 33-year-old returned to complete the double in a slight head-wind with a season best run of 20.45 seconds in the half-lap sprint.

Germans Alexander Kosenkow (20.60) and Aleixo-Platini Menga (20.66) were second and third, respectively.

Collins, who had a slow start to the season, is buoyed by his current form ahead of the August 15-23 IAAF World Championship.

"I am feeling a lot better and more confident. If I could get one more (race) before Berlin and go under 10 seconds, it would increase my chances," he said.
