Khepera Oluyia Hatsheptwa swayed the judges' decision in her favour last year with the installation 'The Cradle of Life' which was made of crib rails, paper and garden mulch. Her work exuded an ambience of welcome, inviting the viewer to step into its lush tones of reds, ochre and black to explore in more details the delicate collages that were sensitively interwoven with the austere, brown crib rails.

Hatsheptwa graduated from the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts in 2000 when she also earned a place on the Dean's List. Tapped as a promising young artist she made her major debut in the National Gallery's Young Talent exhibition of 2002. Since then, she has participated in a number of group and solo exhibitions and later furthered her tertiary training in visual arts education at Mico Teachers' College. The public is invited to the opening.
