IMF pessimism
Published: Saturday | July 25, 2009
Many Jamaicans like myself, both home and abroad, are pessimistic over the idea of Jamaica returning to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). I am confused as to why the Government has chosen to embark on what I considered a retrograde step. This action has brought the present government's ability to govern into question. the policy they are pursuing appears invisible like that of a man shadow boxing.
In my opinion the Government's move to return to the IMF is a clear indication that it has no policy in place. therefore, it is seeking one through this medium. Amazingly, since this government assumed office it has shown no indication that it is ready and willing to address the major issues confronting the nation in a real and effective manner. The deterioration in social and economic order is worsening daily.
stimulating hope
The government has failed to stimulate any hope among the people. instead people are finding increasingly difficult to cope. From my vantage point, the government has neither the ability nor the competence to solve Jamaica's problem. This has led to further erosion in the social and economic order, crime and poverty are increasing and the Government appears to have no answers.
Jamaica needs thinkers, people with the acumen to solve problems; people who will fight for the betterment of Jamaica. We are tired of the talkers. The prime minister sounds highly intelligent when he addresses us but, despite his eloquence, his words and action are out of step with each other while the finance minister sounds more like a preacher who seems out of his league.
