Legislation to establish the proposed National Parenting Support Commission should be before Parliament soon.

Education Minister Andrew Holness says the legislation to create the commission has been drafted but it is awaiting the completion of the policy document.

He says the administration will not go forward with the legislation without the policy in place.

Cautious

"Parenting is an inherently private endeavour and you have to be very careful when you start to enter the private domain to regulate such a private function of the family," Holness told journalists on Wednesday.

The National Parenting Support Commission was proposed by the Government against the background of growing concerns that a significant number of the nation's children lack proper parental supervision.

It is expected to assist parents to decide what is right, as it relates to parenting, by giving information, knowledge and training.

The commission will also help to coordinate and fund other agencies involved in parental intervention.
