While they are eagerly awaiting the second leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing (CMR) Championship, which is scheduled for August 30, Jamaica's top drivers will be using the LIME/Independence Blast Off race meet as their final warm-up session before travelling to Barbados for the regional championship.

The Independence Blast Off, which will feature a series of clashes between the best of the local crop of drivers, takes place on Sunday, August 2, at the Dover Raceway, St Ann.

Good meet

"It is going to be a very good race meet," boasted Hilary Jardine, presidentof the Jamaica RaceDrivers Club.

"The car is ready and I am good. We have effected a few changes to make the car a bit quicker, we believe the changes will work," said David Summerbell, who is still searching for a sponsor to ensure that he completes the other two legs of the CMR championship.

In the first leg of the CMR at Dover, Summerbell dominated the event and assumed the lead. His teammates will be Doug Gore, Chris Campbell and Gary Williams.

The usual clash between Allan Chen and Peter Jaggan in the IP 33 Class has heightened. Reports are that it will not be so easy for Chen, who had the upper hand on the last occasion.

"The last race meet we had mechanical problems. For this meet, we have changed out everything and getting the car ready," said Jaggan, who will also be taking on Teddy Burton in the MP 2 Class.

Stellar event

The stellar event, which features Doug Gore, Summerbell, Peter Rae, Peter 'Bull' Thompson and other drivers of Team MoBay, promises to be more excitingthan before.

"Despite the financial constraint, I will be there," said Rae, who will be sporting his RX7 Mazda.

According to the organisers, it will be a family setting again.

"It is summer and everything will be there for the children," said Mark Carey, one of the chief organisers.

He assured that all the local drivers who took part at the previous meet are expected to be there, including the street bikers such as Stefan Chin and Adrian Blake.
