Jamaica disowned by the mother country
Published: Wednesday | July 15, 2009
I am trying to resolve the continuous disrespect to our people by other nations. We have a population of about 2.7 million people, and yet we are being judged by what so very few among us do. One would presume that a police record should suffice in such a case.
Social demise
England, our mother country, is now saying that we cannot even be accommodated as an intransit traveller to another country without a visa. The motherland that carted our forefathers from their families and from the lands of their birth to sell them as slaves who were considered to be, and were treated as subhuman.
How dare the British, who were responsible for the inbreeding and the social demise of a people, now draw lines on the colonies that were responsible for the accumulation of much of their wealth. The same people from the colonies, many hard-working Jamaicans and other Caribbean nationals, migrated to England in the 1950s when she needed to top up her labour force. Our people were still loyal to the crown.
'People of colour'
I am still questioning what in the world is this new world order about. I do hope that some day there will be the freedom of movement for all adventurous people; but in the end I guess we will still come to the stop sign of 'not for people of colour'.
I am, etc.,
