Class acts: Iona Prep

Twenty-one students - 12 boys and nine girls - graduated from Iona Preparatory School in Tower Isle, St Mary, on June 30. They head for Munro, Knox, Westwood, St Hilda's, Ferncourt, York Castle, Ocho Rios, St Mary and Iona high schools.

In her keynote speech at the Immanuel United Church in Tower Isle, Superintendent of Police Patricia Coulbourne-Whyte challenged the graduates not to allow anything but their vision to influence their focus. She urged them to respect themselves and others and fulfil their potential.

Special awards

Special awards went to the following students: Toni-Marie Anglin (Gwen-dolyn Swaby Award for outstanding and well-rounded girl); Rujay Blackwood (Chairman's Award for outstanding academics); Chrisann Hinds (Pamella Reid Award for Academic excellence); Taje Watson (Mearl Wallace Award for performance in Class K3); Lejon Daley (PTA Award for most improved male student); Renae Thompson (Bursar's Award for most improved female student); Tylan Gill (Champion Boy); Brittany McDonald (Champion Girl).

Graduates of United Learning Centre in Ocho Rios, St Ann, celebrate by tossing their ties into the air recently. The 2009 graduating class was recently praised for helping to raise $100,000 for nine-year-old Ashley Anderson, who was shot and severely disabled in Kingston last year.
