Before you take in the rays, make sure that you apply generous amounts of sunblock all over the exposed parts of your body. - Ricardo Makyn/Staff Photographer

Ah, the sun is high in the sky, you've found the perfect swimsuit and you're ready to hit the beach. But, to make the day a complete success, there are some things a girl just cannot forget.

Lipgloss: Don't let that pout dry out. To avoid sun-chapped lips, get a lipgloss with SPF. If you like your tasty fruity ones with a hint of colour, use a lip balm as a base.

Don't stress over make-up: Be smart! Tinted moisturiser works just as well to cover up imperfections and it's also great for the beach.

Sunblock/moisturiser: Ladies, don't think only Caucasian women need protection from the sun. The sun's ultra violet rays are just as harmful on our tanned bodies so lotion up! A bottle of aloe vera is also great to protect your skin, especially if you get sunburnt.

Sunglasses: This might be the most obvious.

Hat: On the beach, the sun is your enemy and your friend. The right wide-brimmed hat can protect your hair and face and still make a fashion statement.

Wrap: For a flirty appearance, a sarong or any cover-up is good to have, especially if you plan to play some beach volleyball. It also provides added protection for you skin.

Towels: Take two. One to lie on and one that is sand-free to dry off with.

Book/magazine: Make sure it's a great book and a new magazine as the waves provide the perfect background for great reading.

Water: Take a huge bottle. We can't stress enough how important it is to stay hydrated. Especially at beach parties, make sure you have some H20; alcohol dehydrates the body.
