The Teana challenge team in Nissan Motor (Thailand) Co, Ltd (NMT) hit the 1,000-kilometre mark with locally manufactured Teana on a single tank of gas, demonstrating the vehicle's fuel-efficiency with nearly one-fifth of fuel remaining in the tank.

The 1,000-kilometre challenge started on Wednesday, June 24, from Nissan Technical Center, South East Asia (NTCSEA), on the eastern area of Bangkok to the Siam Nissan Pattani 2000 dealership in Hat Yai, a city in southern Thailand near the boundary to Malaysia.

The caravan of five Teanas (2.5L and 2L models) was driven by journalists, engineers from NTCSEA and representatives from NMT to achieve more than 1,000 kilometres - on a single tank of gas. The route involved various rugged roads, strong rains, open public highways to clogged city traffic.

Regular production versions of the all-new Nissan Teana were used in the challenge and had delivered average result of 16.77 Km/L for the 2.5L model and 17.14 Km/L for the 2.0L model. Drivers had been trained using Eco Driving techniques, such as smooth acceleration and coasting to red lights, and were able to get an extraordinary mileage out of their all new Teana.

"The challenge has helped to raise the bar on fuel-efficient driving performance and highlight the Xtronic CVT technology on the all new Teana," said Kazunori Tomimatsu, president of NTCSEA. "The challenge aims for drivers to understand better Teana's mileage-maximising potential and its ability to gain extraordinary results from a single tank of gas, the all-new Teana had been put to the test to show Nissan's commitment to fuel economy and demonstrate to consumers how great the product is," he continued.

Pajarn Tantivanich, assistant manager in NTCSEA who planned and managed this event, added, "The challenge made me realise a great performance and value of new Teana. I would like to thank all the members involved and especially the Teana Challenge Team."

NMT launched all-new Teana in April and they have 900 units of back order as of now.
