PNP denounces honduras coup

The People's National Party (PNP) has joined the Jamaica Government in condemning the forced exile of Honduras President José Manuel Zelaya.

Yesterday, the country remained generally calm following protests on Sunday related to Zelaya's arrest by the military.

He was flown to Costa Rica on Sunday just before the start of a referendum.

The referendum, which was aimed at extending his time as president, was ruled illegal by the Supreme Court.

So was his dismissal of army general, Romeo Vasquez, who did not support the referendum. The court ruled that he should be immediately reinstated.

The PNP says it rejects the coup d'etat approach as a means of resolving internal matters in the Americas and called for constitutional order to be returned to the country.
